I’d like to briefly revisit something from my previous blog post, “Start”.
I said that when we’re stuck, the first step to getting on the path and actually starting (a project, a journey, etc.) is to make a DECISION TO START.
Make a decision and commit to a direction.
Something powerful happens when we make a decision to start.
One big reason people get stuck (of course, not the only reason) is because they are double-minded–they WANT to start, and yet they DON’T want to start.
Perhaps fear gets in the way, or anxiety. Or, maybe it’s simply the natural part of the decision-making process for some–they haven’t finished the phase of weighing the pro’s and con’s, etc.
Pushing through all of our internal resistance and getting to the point where we can authentically say to ourselves, “I WILL . . .”, releases something in us that moves us forward with stronger intentionality. It has the potential of creating a more robust resolve within us.
Sometimes it’s difficult because we’re holding onto something that we need to let go of. Trying to stretch forward while at the same time gripping tightly backwards immobilizes us.
This is when we need to get healthy closure, let go, and move on. We can never grab a hold of that new trapeze swinging towards us if we keep holding onto the current trapeze. That’s where some of us are–holding onto two trapeze at the same time, stretching us in two directions, hanging motionless in midair.
So make a decision. If the decision is “no”, then move on. If it’s “yes”, then move forward.
Just decide.
