Start

I’m talking today to those of you who’ve had difficulty starting.

Starting a project.  Starting a journey.  Starting a new venture.

Even starting an ending.

You find yourself getting stuck for any number of reasons.  Perhaps you over-analyze every detail–”analysis paralysis”, as they say.

Or, maybe you’re waiting until you have everything “perfect” before you get in the game.

Of course, you could be exercising good-old-fashioned avoidance–you’re feeling anxious, maybe even afraid, of taking that first step and heading down a particular path, so you short-circuit the process by avoiding the whole thing.

If you’re having difficulty starting, I have 3 simple steps for you.

STEP ONE:  make a decision to start.

STEP TWO:  start moving.

STEP THREE:  keep moving.

Now, before you dismiss these 3 steps as an oversimplification, check yourself and take a second look.  Is that really true?

Quite the contrary–too often people COMPLICATE problems (and thereby develop solutions that are way too complex, and thus unworkable and “un-implementable”).

No, more often than not, problems and solutions can be defined quite simply, once we strip them of all their extraneous detail, and shift our focus to the essential elements.

So then, three steps.  Stop stalling.  Get going.
