You can’t finish the race unless you first start the race. You can train hard for the race, lace up your best running shoes, and go through all your pre-race rituals.
BUT . . . if you don’t get yourself to the starting line and take off once the gun sounds, then you’ll never get to the finish line. All your training will be in vain.
Many think about running the race. Some have the best of intentions to run the race. Some even prepare as if they will run the race.
It’s not enough. You still have to show up and start!
How many people out there have great ideas they’ve never acted on? What about you—do you have any great ideas you’re sitting on? Are there action steps you’ve needed to take or plans you’ve needed to execute? Maybe even important conversations you’ve needed to initiate?
I believe there are too many people sitting on too many critical ideas, actions steps, and conversations. They need to pull the trigger on these things and move forward. The starting gun has gone off, but they’re still standing at the starting line!
We all know that failing to start keeps us from reaching our goal, whatever that goal may be. I’m not stating anything new or profound here. Yet it’s amazing how many times we can all get stuck at this very place.
Time for application: think of that one goal of yours where you just can’t seem to get going. It has to be a goal that actually means something to you. Have you identified it?
Good. Now, today I’m asking you: what’s that first step that you need to take towards this goal? Be specific.
Oh no, we’re not done yet! Next, I am challenging you to take that first step sometime in the next 7 days.
All we’re talking about here is starting—just start! Get the ball rolling. Break the ice. That’s your only task to focus on for now.
Take that first step.
Get going!
